Prime Minister Victor Ponta has met with the ambassadors of European Union member states accredited in Bucharest. The current challenges facing the Union and Romania’s priorities in this context, energy security and better coordination and cooperation at European level to combat terrorism were among the topics of discussion. According to a press release, in view of the forthcoming Cooperation and Verification Mechanism report, prime minister Victor Ponta has highlighted the progress our country made in the process of judicial reform and in the fight against corruption and he reiterated government’s support for strengthening these results. The discussions are part of Prime Minister’s biannual meetings with the diplomatic body accredited in Bucharest. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
Latvian Ambassador to Bucharest, about the possibility of establishing a date for Romania’s inclusion in Schengen Area
Latvian Ambassador to Bucharest, Ilgvars Klava, whose country holds the current EU presidency, declares that there is a realistic possibility that, in the next six months, a date for Romania’s inclusion in Schengen Area to be set. In a press conference, the Latvian ambassador said that he has signals in this respect, although there is no deadline for Romania’s accession to the area of free movement. In turn, Romanian Foreign Minister, Bogdan Aurescu, said that Romania is already behaving like a Schengen state and its borders, which are Union’s external borders, are protected by the best Schengen technology. Bogdan Aurescu insisted that the European Union can strengthen its internal security against terrorism, without prejudices to some fundamental principles, such as freedom of movement for people and labor force. Statements made in Sibiu by the German Ambassador in Romania, Hans Werner Lauck
270,000 Romanians are working in Germany with legal documents and their work is valued by their employers, said the German Ambassador in Romania, Hans Werner Lauck, in Sibiu. „I can say that Romanian workforce coming to work in Germany is well qualified, appreciated and it has an important contribution to the development of Germany”, said Werner Hans Lauck. He also said that many Romanians are working in social fields, health care, elder care, education, and industry. But the German Ambassador in Romania stressed that „we know that Romania needs skilled labor force, so we do not request very insistent to bring this workforce in Germany”. In recent years, Sibiu has attracted many German investments, context in which Ambassador Hans Werner Lauck discussed with representatives of the municipality about the continuation of these economic relations.
