The IMF welcomes Romania’s economic recovery
The International Monetary Fund has welcomed Romania’s economic recovery and congratulated Romanian authorities for reducing deficits. The IMF executives consider that Bucharest has taken significant steps towards fiscal consolidation and has come up with cautious monetary and fiscal policies. The IMF board has published today a series of recommendations following consultations held with Romanian authorities at the beginning of 2015: Romania should maintain a cautious fiscal policy, strengthen public expense management and better plan investment projects, especially those targeting infrastructure. The IMF experts insist on streamlining and privatization of state-owned companies and on energy market liberalization. They also encourage employment policies for young people, women and lower qualified persons.
PM Victor Ponta announces names of new ministers and completion of Tax Codes
The Cabinet has completed the drafts of Romania’s new Tax Codes as stated earlier today by Prime Minister Victor Ponta who also announced the name of the new Finance Minister, Eugen Teodorovici, formerly in charge with European Funds portfolio. Secretary of state Marius Nica is now taking over the European Funds minister position. President Klaus Iohannis has already endorsed the two nominations. In as far the Tax codes, they are now ready to be sent to the Parliament for debates and possible amendments.
TAROM airline regulations forbid less-than-two presence in the cockpit during flight
Romania’s airline TAROM has pointed out today in a press release posted on the company’s website that its regulations do not allow the presence of less than two persons in the cockpit during flight. If one of the crew members leaves the cockpit he has to ask another member to replace him until his return. The information has been made available given recent changes decided by several airlines these days following reports that Germanwings’ second pilot most likely crashed the plane in the French Alps region deliberately after remaining alone in the cabin and refusing to allow the captain back.
Conference on youth unemployment organized by EP’s Information Office in Romania
Youth unemployment and strategies meant to help graduates find a job have been the main subjects of a special conference organized by European Parliament’s Information Office and Romania Youth Council. The meeting was aimed to fin solutions and establish a real dialogue with representatives of public institutions and businessmen concerning legislative initiatives in the EP, Radio Romania reported.
Three Dacian era gold coins retrieved from Belgium arrived to Bucharest
Three Dacian gold coins called Kosons have been brought back to Romania today by Belgian authorities. The ceremony took place in Bucharest with Belgium’s ambassador Philippe Beke attending the event alongside prosecutors and other patrimony experts from the Romanian Police. The three Kosons are thus joining other 13 Dacian era royal bracelets and over 1.000 coins of this type recovered by the Romanian state over the last few years. The coins are going to be displayed starting next week at Romania’s National History Museum with other objects recently retrieved from Germany, Italy and Spain.
Damen Shipyard in Galaţi launches icebreaker ferryboat commissioned by Canandian provinces
Damen Shipyard in Galaţi is prepared to put into commission today an icebreaker ferryboat named „Veteran” built for passangers and vehicles. The ferry is going to link Fogo and Change islands in the Easternmost part of Canada. The boat is 80 meters long and can carry 200 people and 64 cars. The shipyard in Galaţi has launched 27 boats last year only, among which oiltankers, cargos or military ships.
Romania turns to Daylight Saving Time on March 29th
This Sunday, Romania will change the clocks to Daylight Saving Time or summer time. At 03:00 AM local time the clock is moved forward to 04:00 AM. Sunday thus becomes the shortest day of the year with only 23 hours. Romania”s Railroad Company CFR has informed that trains’ schedule will not be affected. The Daylight Saving Time lasts until October and Romania’s official time will now become GMT+3h.
