Renewed negotiations between Romanian air traffic controlers and ROMATSA managers
Renewed negotiations are expected between Romanian air traffic controllers and ROMATSA (Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration) managers at the country’s Transport Ministry on Tuesday. Traffic controllers staged a two-hour strike last Wenesday after talks broke down over pay, job flexibility and the retirement age. The union representing 1,500 traffic controllers wants employees to be able to retire at 55, higher pay and a labour agreement that allows controllers to move into different, less stressful jobs at a certain age. The strike affected hundreds of passengers with costs estimated at 250,000 euros ($280,000) while some flights were cancelled.
Romania’s Foreign Investors Council in support of the country’s new Fiscal Code
Romania’s Foreign Investors Council is supporting the new Fiscal Code as approved in parliament last month after Romanian President Klaus Iohannis sent back to parliament a proposal for massive tax cuts last Friday, warning the cuts would balloon the fiscal deficit and leave the country defenceless against financial shocks. Representatives of foreign companies in Romania believe the new Fiscal Code is a major step forward for the country’s fiscal restructuring while pointing out the need of a stable and predictable fiscal network.
Company of a Romanian MP under DNA investigation
Romania’s National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) ordered an investigation into the dealings of a company controlled by Nicolae Păun, a Romanian MP representing the country’s Roma minority in parliament. The DNA investigation includes such companies as Niky Scorpion Alcom SRL and SC Pedros Impex SRL for dealings forged since January 1, 2014. Mr. Păun allegedly claimed money from Roma individuals following his support of a law concerning a fiscal amnesty, sources told Radio Romania on Tuesday.
Former Romanian official sent to court by DNA prosecutors
Prosecutors with Romania’s National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) sent to court a former fiscal inspector acting as senior advisor with the Public Finance Administration in the Romanian southern county of Ilfov on Tuesday. Gabriel Niculescu is facing allegations of continuing bribe and influence peddling. Mr. Niculescu allegedly received money and other benefits from a businessman in exchange of a fiscal audit of his company and its records in the General Ledger, also allowing emergency procedures supposed to restore its dealings.
