Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko pays an official visit to Romania
Petro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine, comes today in Bucharest. He will meet with Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos, but first he will be received by the president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, at Cotroceni Palace, who last yaer declared his support for closer relations between Ukraine and the European Union. After the official welcoming ceremony the two heads of state will have talks and will hold a joint press conference. Last year, Klaus Iohannis paid an official visit to Kiev where he voiced his firm support for Ukraine’s getting closer to the European Union. The two presidents also met on the side-lines of an international conference in Munich. Last time, Romanian President reiterated support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and underscored the importance of the full implementation of the Minsk Accords for solving the crisis. Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu met with Spanish Minister of Justice, Rafael Catalá Polo
Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu thanked the Spanish Minister of Justice, Rafael Catalá Polo, for the opening of the dialogue on dual citizenship for Romanians living in Spain who wish it and for the identification of the ways through which Romanian Orthodox Church can benefit from similar facilities granted to other religions. The two ministers also discussed about the project of an International Court for Terrorism. Spanish Minister of Justice also had planned meetings with his Romanian counterpart Plum Raluca and with chief prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate, Laura Codruta Kövesi. US Ambassador to Bucharest Hans Klemm met with the members of the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies
The situation on the NATO’s eastern flank was the subject of the discussions between the American Ambassador in Bucharest, Hans Klemm and the members of the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.The Chairman of the Defence Committee, Social Democrat Ion Mocioalca, said that discussions were preparatory before NATO Summit in Warsaw, scheduled in July,
for which Romania proposes clear objectives. „We hope to get a stronger military presence in this area and, why not, in the Black Sea, a military force to deter certain initiatives that have gained momentum lately, from those who are not members of NATO and especially from Russia. In turn, American Ambassador to Bucharest, Hans Klemm, said that the discussions were focused on the good cooperation between the two states in defense and security. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
Romania is ranked sixth on a list of countries in terms of number of applications filed with the European Court of Human Rights
Romania is ranked sixth on a list of countries in terms of number of applications filed with the European Court of Human Rights, (ECHR), according to a 2015 justice state report released by the Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM). The number of individual applications against Romania on the ECHR docket at various judiciary stages was standing at 3,350 out of a total of 66,000 last year.
Ukraine, Russian Federation, Turkey, Italy and Hungary are ahead Romania. Last year the ECHR delivered 72 judgments in which it found at least one violation of a right provided by the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
