Romanian President will tell leaders of the member states that Romania remains attached to the European project and also that unity and solidarity is needed inside the European Union. United Kingdom’s leaving the EU is a process that will take time and President Iohannis gave assurances that Romania will negotiate to protect its interests. He added that United Kingdom remains an important partner for our country but it will be in no privileged position in relation with the European Union. The Head of State also said that Romania will manage without major problems the impact of British exit and stressed that he received assurances from Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos and from Governor of the National Bank of Romania Mugur Isarescu that both the economy and the national currency will get through Brexit crisis.(RADIO ROMANIA reports)

The result of the referendum in the United Kingdom puts the European Union in an unprecedented situation, but European Union member states will remain united and strong after they will overcome this new challenge, said in a statement European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu. She welcomed the initiative of Romanian President Klaus Iohannis to have a joint meeting with the Prime Minister and with all political party leaders because it is necessary to take the best decisions together so that Romanians in the United Kingdom to suffer as little as possible and their interests to be protected. According to Corina Cretu, the role of national governments will be crucial because they will negotiate the fate of their citizens both in talks with London and in the European Council.
