Romanian Foreign Minister meets his South Korean counterpart in Bucharest
The Romanian Foreign Minister, Teodor Melescanu, and his South Korean counterpart, Yun Byung-se, have signed the Memorandum Agreement on Cooperation and Consultation between the Foreign Ministries of Romania and the Korean Republic. According to Radio Romania correspondents, this is the first visit in 15 years by a South Korean minister in Romania. South Korea is the only Asian country that Romania has a strategic partnership with, applied on the basis of a common action plan.
Teodor Melescanu: Together with Minister Yun we have discussed present elements of the security situation in the Korean Peninsula that is marked by rising tensions, including in the context of the new ballistic test by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. We have both expressed our deep concern on the continuous violations of the UN Security Council resolutions by the North Korean authorities.
The naval traffic has been reopened on the Danube river
The naval traffic on the Maritime and Fluvial Danube has been reopened, but it takes place in winter conditions, the Downstream Danube Fluvial Administration has announced. The latest sector that was still closed for navigation, between Calarasi and Cernavoda, is to be reopened only on daytime, at the responsibility of ship captains. The head of the Administration, Dorian Dumitru, has said that the measure is in place until floatable signaling will be installed in the area. After that, the traffic will be permanently open. There are no more ships stationed due to ice. The naval traffic on the Danube river has been closed on January 8th, on several sectors, due to ice-floes.
Romanian Senate has approved the bill to discontinue the Government’s 13th Emergency Decree
The Senate Plenum has adopted on Monday afternoon a law to discontinue the controversial Ordinance no 13/2017, that was previously repealed by the Government. The leader of Social Democrat Senators, Serban Nicolae, has said that the solution found is constrained, by at the same time, constitutional. During the debates, the Senate Speaker, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, has refused to preside the session and has left the plenum when voting took place, urging his party colleagues to vote as they believed. The senators from the PMP group have also abstained from voting, after Traian Basescu has criticized the legislative solution found. On Tuesday, the bill to discontinue the Ordinance no 13 will go to the Deputies Chamber, which will have the decisive vote on the issue./mbrotacel
