Report by European Broadcasting Union on the situation of the Romanian Television
The Romanian Television needs a serious reform process on its leadership structures, a better communication between the board and the employees, an update of broadcast formats and a better organization of departments and editorial content, according to some of the suggestions made by the experts group from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which have assessed the situation of TVR and compiled a report. Among others, the experts have insisted in the document released today on the need to depoliticize the leadership of the public television and to separate the post of Director from that of President of the Administrative Council.
The controversial Government Emergency Decree no 13 has been discontinued in Parliament
The Romanian Government’s Decree no 13 that amends the criminal legislation and the 14th decree that repeals the previous one have ended their journey in Parliament. The Deputies Chamber, which has a decisive vote in this case, has rejected with a majority of votes the 13th ordinance and adopted the 14th ordinance. According to the documents adopted by the senators on Tuesday, the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code will return to provisions that they included before the Government’s intervention through the 13th decree. The two laws will now go to President Klaus Iohannis to be enacted.
The Romanian Acting Justice Minister has met the US Ambassador to Bucharest
The Government unconditionally supports the fight against corruption and the efforts to enhance the rule of law, with the respect for fundamental human rights and liberties – this is the message carried by the Acting Justice Minister, Ana Birchall, during a meeting with the American Ambassador, Hans Klemm. Ms Birchall has said that Romania’s goal is to get out of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism as soon as possible, as a confirmation of the steps taken towards the judiciary reform. Ana Birchall has underlined the importance of Romania’s cooperation with the United States, as part of the Strategic Partnership and the country’s position as a steady ally on defense and security.
Bird Flu confirmed in Bucharest
The results of tests taken on samples from two dead birds in the Tineretului Park, in Bucharest, have confirmed the suspicion of bird flu – according to a statement from the General Mayor’s Office. Legal measures have already been taken and the entire bird population is being monitored. Ten days ago, an alert was raised in Bucharest, after two gulls were found dead on the Grivita Lake, due to bird flu. Chicken meat has been banned from sale in some markets in Bucharest.
