Romanian President Klaus Iohannis participates in EU Summit in Rome
President Iohannis departs for Rome on Friday, where European leaders will adopt tomorrow a declaration on the future of the European Union (EU). The summit – which will mark the 60th anniversary of the signing in Rome of the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community (EEC) – takes place under special security measures. To avoid events such as those which occurred two days ago in London, the Italian authorities are preparing intensively. On Saturday morning, Heads of State and Government will adopt a joint declaration on the future of the European Union, in the context in which Great Britain will leave the European Union. Until then, on Friday evening they will meet with Pope Francis, in the Vatican’s Sala Regia. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
British Ambassador Paul Brummell : „Thank you Romania for your messages of sympathy and support following appalling events in London”
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis condemned in harsh terms the terrorist attack committed near the British parliament and expressed full solidarity with the United Kingdom, in a telephone conversation with the British Prime Minister Theresa May. Klaus Iohannis also sent condolences to the families of the victims, while wishing speedy recovery to the injured. Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu sent to the families of the victims full compassion of government in Bucharest, pointing out that the government, through its embassy in London, monitors the health development of the two injured Romanians. In turn, United Kingdom Ambassador in Bucharest Paul Brummell wrote on his official Twitter page a message of gratitude for Romanians’ reaction to Wednesday’s attack: „Thank you Romania for your messages of sympathy and support following appalling events in London”. Five people died in the attack and 40 were wounded. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
Romania will continue to help the Republic of Moldova
Romania will continue to help the Republic of Moldova and it is ready even to participate in the privatization of some state companies in this country, said Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu in the town of Piatra Neamt at the end of a joint meeting of the governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. He put a criterion – continuation of the European integration process and continuation of reforms started. „Romania expects consistency and seriousness”, said Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu, „and I reiterate, only the European option can give durable answers to the Moldovan citizens’ expectations for prosperity, security and stability”.
