International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is marked today worldwide
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is marked today worldwide, an initiative launched in 1987 by the United Nations hoping to reduce the magnitude of this phenomenon which has become one of the most dangerous social problems. This year, the event has a message that reminds parents of how important it is to listen to children so as to raise them healthy and safe, away from the attraction of drugs. In Romania, the National Antidrug Agency has started yesterday an awareness campaign with many manifestations in parks and in major cities. „Through these activities we try to draw attention to this very serious phenomenon”, said Sorin Oprea, director of the National Antidrug Agency. We try to offer alternatives to consumption, especially through sport, so that young people to be those who can decide what they will do in the future”. According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) data, around 200 million people worldwide use drugs at least once a year and the most vulnerable are young people. (RADIO ROMANIA reports)
