Romania remains the main commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova
Romania is the main outlet for products coming from the Republic of Moldova. Exports of around 480 million dollars have been made in the first ten months of 2017, 17% more than for the same period of 2016. Also, the Republic of Moldova has imported products from Romania that are worth more than 560 million dollars, 25% more than over the same period last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistic in Chisinau. Almost two thirds of Moldavian exports were sent on the EU market, while the republic of Moldova delivered less than 20% to the Commonwealth of Independent States, in continuous decrease for the last years. Exports from Transnistria have also had as main destination the EU market. Even though this separatist region of the Republic of Moldova declares that it wishes to join the Russian Federation, exports to Russia haven’t exceeded 54 million dollars, while those for Romania were worth more than 84 million, 50% more than last year.
The legal state of Jerusalem will be established by negotiations between Israel and Palestine, Romanian foreign minister says
In his comments about president Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the Romanian foreign minister reiterated today that Romania sticks to its position concerning two states: Israel and Palestine. Teodor Meleşcanu stressed that the two parties must have direct talks and not resort to unilateral actions that may have a negative impact over negotiations. “President Trump indicates clearly that the US want to get involved in finding a solution and, moreover, underlines the fact that, as far as Jerusalem and the situation of the two states are concerned, these will be the subject of negotiations and, according to solutions that will be found, the legal state of the two countries and of Jerusalem will be made clear”, Teodor Meleşcanu said.
Minister of education thinks the legal frame for school violence has to be modified
A draft for modifying the legislation concerning violence in schools could be presented until the end of this year – says the Ministry of Education – given the recent incidents. At least three criminal cases have been open and two young men have been arrested.
A 16-year-old student in Teleorman was arrested after he aggressed a teacher in classroom and prevented her from going out. Two colleagues of the boy, aged 14, are being investigated. The three students are accused of illegal confinement and disturbing public order. Another student, aged 17, from Constanţa, was also arrested, after, for the last three weeks, he threatened and blackmailed three classmates, asking them for money in order for him not to aggress them. In Harghita, a 13-year-old student pushed and hit a teacher during classes. At this age he cannot be criminally charged, the school principal says, considering that the present legislation is too permissive.
“The legislation does not clearly state what happens to underage students when they aggress a colleague or a teacher, or when they damage pieces of furniture. We will make that part of legislation stronger, so that, besides counseling and sanctioning, that we can do today, to increase the responsibility of the parent. We are trying to give more authority to the teacher but also, when the teacher is to blame, make that blame higher”, said Liviu Pop, the minister of education.
