World Health Organization (WHO) will provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health for the development of a new legal framework in sanitary. The decision was made at a meeting between Minister Sorina Pintea and representatives of the organization. According to a press release of the Ministry of Health of Romania, a team of specialists is currently working on the development of the new code of health laws in a project for which the ministry has accessed external funding. Also, representatives of the WHO Regional Office for Europe will provide technical assistance for drawing up of working papers in health events to be held next year during Romania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Romanian authorities have requested financial support from the European Commission for combating the effects of African swine fever and awaits solutions from foreign specialists to limit the spread of the disease. Agriculture Minister Petre Daea said that African swine fever was not a known disease in Romania, that is why the experience of the states that have faced this problem is necessary. He said that the owners of sick animals would be compensated, but so far only 80 files of the 1,600 submitted have been solved. Meanwhile, the slaughter of pigs in households and farms continues. In Braila county, where there is the largest farm in the country and the second in Europe, has begun the slaughtering of the 140,000 infected with African swine fever virus.
