The Romanian Prime Minister will set forth the priorities of Romanian Presidency of the EU Council

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will present the priorities of Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, on Tuesday in Strasbourg. Brexit is one of the issues that Romania is due to handle, and the Romanian Prime Minister has repeatedly said that the county is interested in protecting the rights of its citizens working in the United Kingdom, after its exit from the union. The future EU budget is another delicate issue that Romania will face, and Prime Minister Dancila is determined to make important steps towards drafting this budget. Last but not least, migration into the European space is another priority of Romania’s EU Council Presidency. A delegation of the Bucharest government is having a series of meetings with European officials in Brussels on Monday and will take part in an official dinner, hosted by the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani.

Former President Ion Iliescu has published a message after Romania took over the EU Presidency

The former Romanian President Ion Iliescu has written a message on his blog, on Monday, on the occasion of Romania’s taking over of the EU Presidency. Mr. Iliescu says that the consensus, and not the confrontation, makes things advance in the desired direction. The rotating European Council Presidency is putting through a test our administrative capacity, our political vision and the solidarity as a nation, former president also says. He believes that „the time has come that we come back to politics, to heal from the technocrat illusion, because politics can be democratically controlled by the people, while the technocrats can’t”.

A bad weather information for several areas in Romania is in place until Tuesday

A bad weather information has come into force from this afternoon until Tuesday, January 15th, at 8:00 am. Mixed precipitation is expected in low areas in the West if the country, dominated by snowfall in Maramures and Transylvania and snowfall in the mountainous areas, accompanied by wind gusts. Gusts will also affect the rest of the country this night and tomorrow, with a speed of 45 to 55 km/hour. A yellow code for snowfall will be in place as of this night until tomorrow afternoon, in the following counties: Maramures, Bistrita Nasaud, Mures, Harghita, Satu Mare, Salaj, Bihor, Cluj, Arad, Alba, Hunedoara and Caras-Severin. The authorities have urged te population to avoid going out in the blizzard and make sure there are no blocked roads on their route. The Interior ministry has said that firefighters, policemen and gendarmes are ready to intervene quickly, in case of any emergency situation.
