National Royalty Day
Today is May 10, the National Day of Royalty, marking the establishment of the monarchy in Romania by the beginning of the reign of King Carol I of Hohenzollern. By a decision of the Chamber of Deputies, May 10-th is a national holiday. It was the National Day of Romania from 1866 until 1947 when the communist regime was established. At 11:00, today, at King Carol I-st statue of the Royal Palace Square in Bucharest there will be a military flower ceremony and a military show in memory of the founder of the royal dynasty and of the modern Romanian state. His Majesty Margareta, the Crown Custodian, Prince Radu and Princesses Elena, Sofia and Maria will be present. In the afternoon, a „garden party” feast will be held at Elisabeth Palace, where guests from all over the country and the Republic of Moldova are expected, including officials and members of the Diplomatic Corps./opopescu
Romanian exports increased by 3.2%, exceeding 17.5 billion euros
Romania’s exports increased by 3.2% over the same period last year, exceeding 17.5 billion euros, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. Import dynamics were more pronounced, with more than 7 percent and close to 21.2 billion euros. Thus, the trade deficit, ie the difference between the value of imports and exports, increased by over 900 million euros compared to the first three months of 2018 and reached, after the first quarter of this year, approximately 3.64 billion euro./opopescu

Romania has long been ready to join the Schengen area, and the states that oppose have political reasons for not accepting this – Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said yesterday in Alba-Iulia. The point was made in the context in which Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said yesterday in Sibiu, answering a question from journalists, that our country will enter Schengen when it begins to comply with all rules of the rule of law and democracy . On the other hand, PNL leader Ludovic Orban welcomed the adoption of the „Declaration of Sibiu” by the leaders of the European Union, and argued that it is a „major moment” that offers Romania a solid perspective in the discussions on the future of the community project./opopescu
