Rovana Plumb has thanked the Government for its support in her attempt to become an European Commissioner
The Romanian MEP Rovana Plumb has thanked Prime Minister Viorica Dancila and the Government for their support in the process of her tentative appointment as an European Commissioner. She claims that her invalidation for the Transport portfolio by the European Parliament’s Legal Committee was an injustice and she has been removed from the race on the basis of what she called „double standards” and political games that were allegedly made with the help of some Romanian MEPs. Rovana Plumb has also said that she remains a member of the European Parliament and will continue to defend the rights and interests of our country in any situation. The Legal Affairs Committee in the European Parliament decided last week that Rovana Plumb and Hungary’s nominee, Laszlo Trocsanyi, do not meet the conditions for the positions of European Commissioners.
Dan Nica and Melania Ciot are Romania’s new proposals for European Commissioner, after the first candidate was blocked
Romania’s ruling Social Democrats picked European lawmaker Dan Nica as commissioner-designate after their first proposal Rovana Plumb was blocked by EU lawmakers. They have also proposed deputy Foreign Minister Melania-Gabriela Ciot for the same post. PSD now has two nominees for the EU commissioner job after Brussels asked for a man and a woman to be nominated. Prime Minister Viorica Dancila’s first choice for Transport Commissioner, Rovana Plumb, was rejected on Monday, along with Hungary’s candidate, by the Legal Affairs Committee of the EU Parliament because of conflicts of interest.
