The number of COVID-19 infections in Romania has topped 16,000
Romania has passed the threshold of 16,000 confirmed coronavirus cases on Wednesday, with 224 new infections reported in the last 24 hours. Another 14 people have died and the total number of COVID-19-related deaths has reached 1016. At the moment, 228 COVID-19 patients are treated in intensive care, and 1.016 tests have been performed. Out of the total positive cases, almost 8,000 people have recovered and were discharged, according to data shown by the Strategic Communication Group. 14,000 people are quarantined and another 19.000 are isolated at home.
Romania is sending a team of 15 military doctors and experts to the United States
Romania has offered to send a team of 15 military doctors and experts in chemical, biological, radiologic and nuclear defense to the United States, to help at countering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. A conversation on this issue was held on Wednesday between the Romanian Defense Minister Nicolae Ciuca and the American Defense Secretary Mark Esper. The mission is due to last for 14 days, according to a statement.
The law declaring a state of alarm in Romania is constitutional
The Romanian Constitutional Court has decided that the legal framework that establishes the state of alert is constitutional. Judges have also admitted a claim by the Ombudsman related to an article of the decree on limiting some individual rights and liberties. They decided that such measures could only be adopted by a law voted in Parliament.
