The Chamber of Deputies has endorsed the Government’s draft project on state of alert measures
The Chamber of Deputies adopted, yesterday, the Government’s project regarding the measures in the state of alert. Several changes have been made to the form approved by the Senate, and one of them stipulates that Parliament will have to approve the alert status within five days, if the measure is implemented in at least half of the country. The document also refers to the possibility of opening shopping centers with an area of less than 15.000 square meters and terraces, in compliance with health protection measures. The Parliament can also make changes to the measures proposed by the Government in the state of alert. All parliamentary groups, except ALDE and PRO Romania, voted in favor of the project. The Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body. The document will wait in the Parliament for two days from the moment of adoption, term in which it can be challenged at the Constitutional Court and then it will be sent for promulgation to the president./opopescu
The National Day of the martyrs from the communist prisons is marked in Romania
Today, Romanians are marking the National Day of the martyrs from the communist prisons. This day marks the 72-nd anniversary of the largest wave of political arrests in the history of our country, during the night of May 14-th, 1948. Tens of thousands of young people, many of them students, were arrested that night, based on a plan of the communist authorities, and sent to prisons and extermination camps. Among the most famous communist prisons in which they executed their sentences or in which many political detainees lost their lives are those in Pitești, Gherla, Aiud, Târgu Ocna, Sighet, Râmnicu Sărat, Arad, Jilava or Văcărești./opopescu
Romania has exceeded 16.000 cases of coronavirus infections
Romania exceeded 16.000 cases of coronavirus yesterday, after reporting another 224 new infections. 228 patients are currently hospitalized in Intensive Care Units, and almost 8.000 have been cured. The number of deaths reached 1.016./opopescu
