Updated COVID-19 tally in Romania

The Romanian authorities have announced 1,256 new cases of COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, out of more than 25.000 tests, to a total of more than 81,600 cases since the start of the pandemic. Most of the cases in the last 24 hours were reported in the capital Bucharest, as well as in the counties of Iasi and Prahova. The authorities also reported 54 deaths, to a total number of fatalities of 3,421. 502 patients are currently admitted to intensive care.

Sweden has lifted the travel alert for Romania, Bulgaria and the Netherlands

Sweden has lifted the travel alert for Romania, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, after a previous measure applied to Andorra, Austria, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Switzerland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Hungary and Vatican. The Swedish Foreign Ministry says in a statement published on its website that it has extended until September 9th the travel warning for the rest of the countries in the Schengen area which were not included in the list above and the United kingdom, while the restrictions for the rest of the world remain in place until November 15th.

Radio Romania is a co-producer of the 2020 George Enescu International Contest

Ever since 1958, Radio Romania has been part of the George Enescu International Contest which has been reorganized this year, due to the pandemic: the first period is held exclusively online, between August 29th and September 20th, while the semifinals and performances of some young artists and members of the jury are due to unfold under normal circumstances in May 2021, with artists on the stage and public in the auditorium. Radio Romania Muzical and Radio Romania Cultural will broadcast live the opening concert of the George Enescu International Contest, on August the 29th, at 6:00 PM. It is a concert without a public, performed in the Great Hall of the Romanian Athenaeum, by George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Josep Caballe Domenech.
