Updated tally of COVID-19 outbreak in Romania

The Romanian authorities have reported 1,365 cases of new infections with the novel coronavirus, out of almost 24,000 tests performed in the last 24 hours. Most cases were registered in the capital Bucharest – 197, a figure almost double than the day before, while in the county of Bacau, authorities reported 115 new daily cases and 64 cases were reported in the county of Bihor. The nationwide infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants has slightly declined in the last two weeks, to 73. However, the number of serious cases remains high, with more than 500 patients currently in intensive care, out of almost 7,300 COVID-19 patients admitted to hospital. On Thursday, the authorities reported 44 new deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities linked to COVID-19 to 3,765.

The Romanian Foreign Minister is on a working visit to Israel

The Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu has had a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday and political consultations with his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Askenazi. They agreed to intensify economic cooperation and explore new opportunities. Minister Bogdan Aurescu and his Israeli counterpart have agreed to create a working group in order to prepare the joint meeting ot the two counties’ governments in areas of mutual concern. Bogdan Aurescu has indicated that Romania has constantly shown, including at European Union level, that it favors a lasting peace solution and the resumption of direct negotiations with the Palestinians. On Thursday, the Romanian Foreign Minister is meeting the Israeli President, Reuven Rivlin and then he will go to Ramallah, to meet the Palestinian Prime Minister.

President Klaus Iohannis has again called on the Romanian people to observe the sanitary safety measures

The Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has again called on the population to respect the rules of sanitary safety, as the number of COVID-19 cases remains high in the country. According to the president, Romanians should take care of themselves and protect themselves until a vaccine is found.
Klaus Iohhanis: Dear Romanians, keep being responsible. Without a vaccine, the virus has only one barrier – the care that each of us carry for ourselves and fo those around us. Protect yourselves as we already know: mask, distancing, hands hygiene.
On the other hand, the president believes that schools have to reopen on September 14th, by he mentioned that in case of an increase of the number of infected people, authorities would have to resort to other ways of education, as online teaching.
