President Klaus Iohannis says justice must do its duty about the repression in December 1989
Justice must do its duty in the case of those guilty of the bloody repression in December 1989, says president Klaus Iohannis in a message marking the victory of the Romanian Revolution and of Freedom. The chief of state thinks that the unmeasurable pain of those who have lost their loved ones has been doubled in all these years by the failure of the state to do justice. One society’s health depends greatly on the way in which the past reactions are learned and assumed. And that is exactly why justice must do its duty, because ant further delay will transform this shameful remainder in a serious attack on democracy, president Klaus Iohannis added.
Unemployment rate in the third quarter of this year is slightly lower than the one registered in the second one
The unemployment rate in the third quarter of this year has reached 5,2%, slightly lower than the one in the second quarter, according to data published today by The National Institute of Statistics (INS). The unemployment rate among men is of 5,4%, almost equal to that of women. The highest level of unemployment could be seen among young people up to 24 years old – 19,2%. However, the rate of employment for the population of 20-64 years of age has been of 71%, more than the national target of 70 percent, set through the “Europe 2020” Strategy. The active strategy in Romania is of approximatively 9 million people, according to INS.
Romania, marked by skepticism concerning vaccination
Europe is marked by a relative skepticism regarding vaccination. This situation has been observed in several surveys. Romania is no exception and the latest research shows that more than half the teaching personnel wouldn’t have the COVID-19 jab.
Poland and France seem to be the two most skeptical European countries about vaccination, according to surveys. Citizens of Sweden, Germany or Spain have also seemed more reserved than the population of other developed countries, like the United States or South Korea. Euronews argued that one of the explanations for this situation is the lack of trust in local governments. In Romania, the most recent survey has been conducted among teachers in the “Spiru Haret” Education Unions Federation. More than 13.000 teachers participated in the survey. The conclusion was that 56,3% of the teachers would not have the vaccine against COVID-19. Data also shows that 43% would wish for coming back to face to face teaching. On a national scale, surveys conducted at the end of November showed that only one in five Romanians would get immunized against COVID-19. 30% declared that they would wait for a while and that they would only accept the vaccine if they knew that people who had it before didn’t have any problems. The highest acceptance rate was observed among the medical personnel. According to official data, 95% of COVID hospitals personnel would take the vaccine and 70% of the non-COVID hospitals would do the same. Experts say that it takes 70% of the population to be vaccinated in order for the COVID pandemic to be eradicated.
