Romania condemns the detention of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny

The Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu has condemned the detention of the Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny, on Sunday evening, shortly after his return from Germany, where he had received treatment after being poisoned with the Novichok nerve agent last year. In a Twitter post, Mr. Aurescu says that repressing the opposition just because it is opposition is a purely undemocratic gesture.

Around 88.000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine are due to arrive in Romania on Monday

Almost 88,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine are due to arrive in Romania today, as a new stage of the national anti-COVID immunization campaign has begun, while medical staff in infectious disease hospitals who were vaccinated on December 27th are starting to receive the second dose of the vaccine. Around 205,000 Romanians have been vaccinated against the new coronavirus so far and 764 side effects have been reported – all minor and common, none serious. On Sunday, 875 people received the booster dose. Vaccination of those included in the second stage has also begun on Monday – adults over 65, the chronically ill and employees in key areas.

The Romanian Prime Minister has spoken with his French counterpart on issues related to the pandemic

Prime Minister Florin Catu has had a phone conversation with his French counterpart, Jean Castex, on Monday, about the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccination processes in the two countries. During the discussion, the Romanian Prime Minister also underlined the importance of the French campaigns for the economic recovery process in Romania. The French Prime Minister has again expressed his support for our country as far as common foreign projects are concerned.
