New session of Romania’s parliament
A new session of the Romanian parliament begins today, the first since the new senators and deputies were elected in December last year. A vote on the country’s budget is seen as a top priority though the right-wing government would also put forward its agenda on justice reforms along with changes in wage and pension regime as well as education and healthcare reforms. However, the left-wing opposition minority is expected to put forward proposals of its own on such issues in its attempt to put the government under pressure. Meetings of Permanent Bureaux in both upper and lower houses were scheduled on Monday at 3 PM. The Senate is expected to elect members of its permanent bureau along with committee presidents, secretaries, and questors. Romania’s parliament has approved a new liberal government and prime minister, keeping out of power a left-wing party that won most votes at parliamentary elections last December.
