Updated COVID-19 tally in Romania
The Romanian authorities have reported another 3,383 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, in the last 24 hours, which keeps the decreasing trend seen in the last few days. A week ago, the daily number of cases was higher by 1,300. Also, the number of people admitted to hospitals with COVID-19 has fallen slightly, but the number of patients in the Intensive Case Units is still high – 1.530. The country also reported one of the highest daily figure of deaths this month – 193, on Tuesday.
The first batch of the Johnson & Jonson vaccine against COVID-19 are arriving in Romania on Wednesday
The American drug maker Johnson & Johnson has brought forward the timeline for deliveries of its anti-COVID vaccine, which is administered in one dose, according to the secretary of state at the Romanian Ministry of Health, Andrei Baciu.
Andrei Baciu” 60,000 doses of the vaccine will arrive on April 15 at the Cantacuzino Institute. We are talking about the first tranches. Aditionally, another 103,200 doses of this vaccine will arrive in the last week of April.
Prime Minister Florin Citu has said that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be used in the mobile vaccination centers in rural areas. 20 such centers will become operational next week, with support from the defense and interior ministries.
Romania is vaccinating 115,000 people daily against COVID-19, Prime Minister says
The Romanian Prime Minister, Florin Citu, has said that the country’s capacity to vaccinate against COVID-19 has reached 115,000 people a day. He has insisted that a common effort is needed in order to achieve a return to normality and has encouraged people to get vaccinated and to observe the sanitary measures. The coordinator of Romania’s vaccination campaign, Valeriu Gheorghita, has recently announced 144 new centers for vaccination with the Pfizer jab will be opened as of today. Another 41 centers are to become operational on April 20, where people will be able to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
