‚Fewer disputes, more dialogue and a growing concern about people’s needs’ – Romanian President’s appeal to the government
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis issued his own conclusions on Tuesday about the country’s recent political crisis sparked by the removal of Vlad Voiculescu from his position as Health Minister. The president called on ministers to refrain from disputes and promote a dialogue aimed at prioritising the people’s needs. The opposition left-wing Social Democratic Party (PSD) believes a co-operation between the right-wing ruling coalition parties remains poor with a damaging effect on people’s lives. All these explain why PSD leader Marcel Celacu said that his party would submit a new censure motion against the government by the end of the current session of the Romanian parliament. “The National Liberal Party (PNL) and the USR-Plus (the junior party in Romania’s governing coalition) are too different, and it would be no surprise if the two parties would split again in a month”, Mr. Celacu told Radio Romania
Romania’s CSAT meeting scheduled next week
Romania’s Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) is expected to meet next week, President Klaus Iohannis announced. Talks will focus on recent developments in neighbouring Ukraine. “We are deeply concerned”, President Iohannis said while asssuring that future events were not expected to take the country’s authorities by surprise. “The situation is most troubling in the Black Sea region especially at Ukraine’s eastern border. We are following events, and we are not supposed to wait for intelligence from others. Our intelligence services in the area are most effective”, President Iohannis said in a statement on Thursday. Russia amassed recently a large number of troops near its border with Ukraine raising US and EU concerns.
