Romania and Bulgaria will have limited access to the Schengen Information System, as of July 1, 2021

The European Commission has announced that Romania and Bulgaria are to be given limited access to the Schengen Information System, as of July 1, 2021. The two countries will be able to consult information, but not to make changes in the system. Nonetheless, Romanian and Bulgarian authorities will be able to see the history of visa applications and check the validity of Schengen visas issued by other member states. The total access to the Schengen Information System will be granted once Bulgaria and Romania will be completely integrated in the free movement area, the Commission says.

Spain no longer considers Romania as a country of risk for COVID-19 infection

The Spanish authorities no longer see Romania as a country of infection risk, so as to uphold the restriction measures concerning its citizens. As of Tuesday, June the 22nd, Romanians coming to Spain will no longer have to present a certificate that shows that they are vaccinated against COVID-19, or a negative PCR or antigen COVID test or the certificate that they have recovered from COVID-19, according to a statement issued by the Romanian foreign affairs ministry.

Romania sees the best evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic since March 2020

The Romanian authorities have announced on Monday 53 new cases of COVID-19 infections, out of more than 19,500 tests performed, and only two deaths attributed to the coronavirus. 16 more deaths were added to the tally from the earlier period. 161 patients are currently admitted to Intensive Care Units with COVID-19. The week that just ended has seen the best evolution of the pandemic in Romania, since March 2020, with a total of 530 new cases in the last seven days. At the peak of the latest wave of the pandemic this spring, Romania had reported almost 40,000 new cases every week. However, the vaccination pace continues to be slow, with only 6,125 people vaccinated with the first dose of a vaccine against COVID-19, in the last 24 hours. It is the lowest number of vaccinated people per day, since mid February. The total number of Romanians completely vaccinated against COVID-19 is more than 4,355,000.
