Romania prepares for the National Navy Day celebrations
The General Staff of the Romanian Naval Forces organizes in the cities of Constanța, Mangalia, Brăila, Tulcea and Bucharest a series of activities dedicated to the Romanian Navy Day, celebrated on August 15th. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, public will be allowed to participate in some events, in compliance with the measures in place to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. On Saturday, wreath-laying ceremonies will be held in Constanța, Mangalia, Brăila and Tulcea, to honor the memory of the seafaring heroes. Also on Saturday, the military ports will be open to the public, but the focus of the demonstrations will be, however, on Sunday.
Foreign direct investment reached 3.138 billion euros in Romania
Foreign direct investment reached 3.138 billion euros in the first six months, compared to 996 million euros in the same period in 2020, representing an increase of 215%, according to data released today by the National Bank of Romania (NBR). The 2,573 units of newly established foreign capital companies in Romania represent an increase by 53.7%, compared to the similar period in 2020, according to data centralized by the National Office of the Trade Register. On the other hand, in the first six months of the year the total external debt increased by almost 2.1 billion euros. The current account deficit – respectively, the difference between imports and exports – soared to 73.44%, just over 7 billion euros – according to NBR data.
Romania is the seventh largest potato producer in the European Union
Romania is the seventh largest potato producer in the European Union, according to data published on Friday by Eurostat. Thus, a total quantity of 55.3 million tons of potatoes was harvested last year at EU level, 27.4% lower than in 2000, of which 2.68 million tons were produced in Romania. Germany is the largest potato producer in the European Union, according to figures displayed by the European Bureau of Statistics, accounting for 21.2% of total production. It is followed by Poland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Romania. At European level, an area of 1.7 million hectares was cultivated with potatoes in 2020, i.e., 1.7% of the total arable land in the European Union./mbaciu
