CSAT meeting at Cotroceni Presidential Palace
A meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) was called at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace in the capital Bucharest on Wednesday with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis expected to preside the event. Agenda of the CSAT meeting includes topics regarding security concerns in Afghanistan and implications for Romania. Efforts to repatriate the Romanian nationals from Afghanistan proved extremely difficult in a constantly changing landscape, President Iohannis pointed out last week. A Romanian military plane returned on Saturday from the Afghan capital of Kabul, bringing back 15 Romanian nationals and four Bulgarian citizens. The president noted that Romania will also provide evacuation assistance to Afghan citizens who had supported Romanian military efforts in Afghanistan over the years as well as those benefiting from Romanian state scholarships.
Orange code for floods
An orange code of flood warning was issued for towns and rural areas in Romania’s central counties of Harghita, Covasna and Brașov. The warning will end on Thursday, at 6 AM, and includes mainly the river Olt and its tributaries. European catastrophic flooding was forecast well in advance. However, many countries reported billions of euros’ worth of damage with communities devastated, thousands of homes destroyed and their occupants traumatised. Torrential showers last month caused floods in 29 areas in 12 counties in Romania with power grids damaged. Romanian authorities try to prevent these disasters or to mitigate their effects.
