Referring to the challenge brought by the COVID-19 to the intelligence services and to the way in which the public can easily get to a wrong interpretation of events, Klaus Iohannis told participants that he supports platforms that aim to offer a frame for an informed, argumented and open dialogue, based on correct information, including in defense and national security. The fifth edition of the Black Sea and Balkans Forum takes place today and tomorrow in Bucharest and is attended by experts in the region, from the United States and the European Union and also from the North-Atlantic Alliance.

Advice offered by Mountain Rescue Mureş to avoid encountering bears

Over 4,400 emergency calls have been made this year, indicating the presence of bears, 20 times more than similar calls registered only five years ago. Authorities are facing a complicated situation. The life and goods of people must be protected, but if bears come down to inhabited areas they cannot simply be killed. The national plan of action to conservate the brown bear population in Romania, launched in Băile Tuşnad, states, for the beginning, installing electric fences to stop the animals come close to inhabited areas. Róbert Kovács, from Mountain Rescue, tells us what we can do to prevent encountering a bear.
Róbert Kovács: First and foremost, ideally, we don’t go hiking by ourselves. If we have a large group we talk among each other, make more noise and then the chance of us encountering a bear drops, because a bear that hears a group of tourists coming towards it each other will rather avoid that track, so we have high chances not to see the animal. Never leave the marked paths, we should never go into the bush area or in places where bears look for food. Usually, touristic routes are safe, especially in Mureş.
