The Romanian company Nuclearelectrica and the American firm NuScale Power have signed the cooperation agreement for small modular nuclear reactors
The Romanian Society Nuclearelectrica and the American company NuScale Power have signed the cooperation agreement at the climate summit in Glasgow to build small modular nuclear reactors. Romania will build the first such reactor in the world – a technology approved last year by the American regulators. The Romanian acting Energy Minister Virgil Popescu, who took part in the signing ceremony, has said that this technology will contribute to the fight against climate change. The minister explained that Romania would become a regional leader in supplying clean energy and a local chain will be build that would allow the country to become an investment hub and a supplier of small modular nuclear reactors to countries in Central and Eastern Europe. In the first phase of implementation for the new technology 6,000 jobs will be created in Romania and the United States and, subsequently, the number of new jobs will reach 30,000.
The Romanian Doctors College says that 92% of COVID-19 related deaths in Romania were recorded in unvaccinated people
The only weapon we have to counter fake statements made by some doctors about the COVID-19 vaccine is to present scientific evidence, the President of Romania’s Doctors College Daniel Coriu has said. At the end of a visit by representatives of the World Health Organization in Romania, Mr. Coriu underlined that it was important to bring such proves in front of the medical community. Daniel Coriu has emphasized that 92% of people who died lately due to COVID-19 were not vaccinated.
Daniel Coriu: Those who die are patients with associated illnesses, patients with advanced cancers. The vaccine offers protection, does not prevent us from getting the disease, but it helps us to go through it smoothly and the medical system does not get strained. This is most important. Vaccinated patients do not need intensive care, as it happens at the moment.
The WHO director for emergencies Dorit Nitzan has said that what we are witnessing is a pandemic of unvaccinated people. The official has urged the population to get vaccinated, saying that the end of this pandemic is in our hands. It will end when we want it to end, but we must act, Mr. Nitzan says.
Dorit Nitzan: The vaccine rolled out in Romania is approved and validated with complete scientific studies. We are at war with the virus. It is not a sophisticated creature, but it knows how to survive and the next variant, the next mutations, could be harmful for children. We must be careful and act fast. So far we do not have information on the severe cases, but mutations are developing and the virus which is sophisticated could reach children. We must be careful. Every life matters. We are here to save lives and to save the lives of future generations.
The number of severe cases of COVID-19 is growing in Romania
Romania has hit a record high on Thursday in terms of COVID patients admitted to Intensive Care Units – 1,902, including 33 children and no spare beds left for new admissions. The authorities have reported 8,971 new daily COVID-19 cases and 489 associated deaths in the last 24 hours.
