Two of the people who attended the unauthorized protest organized by AUR have been arrested by the police. One of them forced the gate at the entrance to the Senate courtyard and has been identified using the video images, the other one presumably vandalized four cars in the Parliament yard. The police mentioned that it identified 211 people who participate in the protest, and fines exceed 200,000 lei. Meanwhile, deputy Alexandru Muraru, special Government representative to combat antisemitism and xenophobia, has officially announced the General Prosecutor’s Office, after the protesters used Nazi symbols during the demonstrations. The picture of a swastika drawn on the European Union flag by an AUR protester represents a sign of violence and hatred incitement, that seriously harmed Romania’s image and has appeared in some of the most well-known publications in the world, said Alexandru Muraru.
Solemn meeting of the Parliament, 32 years away from the Romanian Revolution in 1989
The Senate and the House of Deputies will organize today a solemn meeting, dedicated to the passage of 32 years since the Romanian Revolution in 1989. During the meeting, representatives of all the parliamentary groups have programmed their interventions. The meeting today is dedicated to bringing an homage to those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom in December 1989. Senators have kept a moment of silence for the martyrs of the Romanian Revolution. Ceremonies dedicated to the Revolution have begun on December 15th, in Timişoara and have taken place in many cities in Romania. On December 23rd 1989, the Ceauşescu couple had been arrested and everybody was waiting for the rebellion to end. In fact, there have been more fighting, exchanges of fire and people have been wounded and killed.
Congestion at the border crossing points, for transporters
At the border crossing points there is a congestion for transporters. These days, in Vama Siret, drivers wait in long lines around 480 minutes – eight hours – to get out of the country. In Giurgiu there are queues of trucks that stretch out for kilometers. Border police say they have adapted their surveillance and control missions to reduce the waiting time. I only 24 hours, 1,400 trucks have entered and left the country through Giurgiu border crossing point. The waiting time for driver has reached more than one hour and half. The border police has special measures to reduce waiting time and have contacted the Bulgarian authorities to find common solutions.
