Romania’s cabinet meeting
Romania’s cabinet is meeting in an informal session on Monday. The meeting is expected to focus on the national energy strategy. Ministers are also expected to discuss the country’s Integrated National Plan for Energy and Climate Change along with a financing strategy in the next eight years (by 2030). Romania plans to cut by some 44 percent its gas emissions while also increase its energy production from renewable sources by almost 31 percent. The Romanian government has adopted an integrated energy plan that calls for two new CANDU reactors at Cernavodă by 2031 and refurbishment of an existing unit there in 2037. It would double the country’s nuclear power supply in a decade. The plan is designed to address the five main aspects of collective energy policy for countries in the EU: energy security, energy efficiency, domestic energy market, and research, innovation and competitiveness.
