The annual inflation rate rose to 8.19% in December
The annual inflation rate rose to 8.19% in December last year from 7.8% in November, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. This indicator remains well above the 3.5 percent as the upper limit of the range targeted by the National Bank. The increase in inflation is taking place in the context in which non-food goods have risen by almost 11%, food by 6.69%, and services by almost 4.5%, according to statistics. Significant increases were recorded last month compared to November for air transport, with almost 20 percent, postal services with over 16% and electricity with almost 6.3%. Solutions to the energy tariff crisis will be discussed in the ruling coalition
The President of the Senate, the leader of the PNL, Florin Cîțu, announced yesterday, on a television station, that the solutions regarding the energy tariff crisis will be discussed in the governing coalition in the coming days. He believes that pragmatic measures to protect vulnerable citizens and companies should be implemented quickly in this situation, and that long-term investment is needed to increase energy production capacity. Florin Cîţu also said that it is necessary to analyze the situation regarding the bills where irregularities are found and stressed that the law must be respected by all actors in the energy market.
The president of PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, announced that until Sunday there will be a meeting of the coalition, in which the measures that the Ciuca Government will take in the matter of energy tariffs will be established. The Social Democrat leader claims that a simple solution is to reduce VAT to 5% for both electricity and natural gas, from February 1st.
