The Union of Ukrainians in Romania (UUR) has taken several actions to support and assist Ukrainian refugees arriving in Romania. One of the initiatives is the launching of the „Peace Fund in Ukraine”, available in three accounts – in lei, in euros and in dollars – to support the Ukrainian people, who are facing the horrors of a war. Miroslav Petretchi, UUR MP, said:
Miroslav Petretchi: We placed all the accommodation spaces available within the UUR premises to the disposal of local authorities; we are talking here about a few hundred accommodation places, which are all full at the moment. We also purchased extra beds to accommodate as many people as possible. At the same time, our colleagues in the territory are present at customs and check points to help with the translation, to guide the people who cross the border during this period. Together with the Ukrainian churches, together with the local public administrations in the counties where ethnic Ukrainians live, with associations and with private individuals, we have managed to deliver over 110 tons of aid in the last 2 and a half days, consisting of non-perishable materials, medicines, blankets, hygiene products and other materials needed during this period. (…) We try to send the aid we receive during the night to the Ukrainian side the next day; And here I would like to thank the Romanian Border Police, the embassy, the local authorities and the Ukrainian side for all their support, so that we can be as prompt as possible at such a time. As a first step, the aid goes to the Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpatska and Lviv regions, from where it is handed over. Just this morning, two convoys passed: one from Bucharest to Isaccea, to go further in the Odessa region; and another, from Caraş-Severin to Siret. What is important for us is that we are able to gather from all over the country, so we can send to many regions at the same time./aionita
