NATO – A unitary approach to the Eastern Flank is the most efficient way to defend every inch of the NATO territory, and the presence of the American troops in Romania is a real proof of the US commitment to its security, the Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă said. He participated on Saturday at the Mihail Kogălniceanu Military Base (south-east) in the battle flag presentation ceremony of an American unit additionally deployed in Romania (the 2nd Combat Team Brigade within the 101st Airborne Division). The PM thanked the American soldiers deployed in Romania for their effort and contribution to the security of the country. „Your presence is very welcome. Together we are strong”, Nicolae Ciucă told them. He recalled that, for a better adaptation to the new security paradigm, the Romanian authorities, together with the NATO allies, are in an advanced stage of implementing the multinational battle group led by France, with the participation of troops from Belgium and the Netherlands. In turn, the commander of the 101st Airborne Division, Major General Joseph McGee, said that the mission of the American division is to defend allies and to defend peace. He appreciated the „warm welcome” given by Romania, showing that the Romanians’ professionalism and combat training is „impressive”.
