Defined contribution pension increased by 12.5 percent
Defined contribution pensions are expected to increase in Romania by 12.5 percent from January 1, next year, following a decision of the country’s governing coalition late on Monday. Low income tax payers are also expected to receive a state aid in two installments next year. The government will make cash payments to low-income pensioners throughout the year to help most vulnerable Romanians cope with surging inflation. Child benefits are to be updated according to Romania’s inflation rate along with other state benefits. The decision was made following a three-hour cabinet meeting on Monday. Cash payments will vary in size for pensions under RON 3,000 per month, Radio Romania reported.
Italy’s ENEL expected to leave Romania next year
Italian energy giant ENEL announced plans of leaving Romania by the end of next year. Italy’s biggest utility said the plan would be carried out next year as the company aims to strategically reposition its focus on six core contries including Italy, Spain, the US, and Columbia. ENEL will sale its Romanian assets and expects to exit from Peru and Argentina. “The group’s strategy for the coming years is a strategy that forsees partial or total sale of assets in countries such as Russia, Romania, Chile, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina”, Enel CEO Francesco Starace told reporters at a press conference in Milan. “In the next three years, we will focus on integrated business models, digital know-how as well as businesses that can add value despite challenges of today”, Mr. Starace said.
Romanian official elected as vicepresident of NATO Parliamentary Assembly
USR’s Nicu Fălcoi was elected vicepresident of NATO Parliamentary Aseembly. An MP of the right-wing Save Romania Union (USR), Mr Fălcoi was also reconfirmed as deputy leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats’ group within NATO Parliamentary Assembly, according to USR sources. The NATO PA concluded four days of talks on Monday focused on bolstering the Alliance’s deterrence and defence and pushing ahead on key NATO Summit security decisions against the backdrop of Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine.
