Russia’s Defense Ministry claims that the unauthorized use of mobile phones by the Russian troops would have allowed Ukrainian forces to locate and destroy the building where they were temporarily stationed in Makiivka this weekend. According to the ministry, the number of Russian soldiers killed in the attack is 89. Ukrainian sources suggest, however, that the number is much higher. The heavy losses caused by the Ukrainian attack with HIMARS missiles have drawn widespread criticism aimed at the Russian military commanders, but the statement issued by the Russian Defense Ministry pushes responsibility further down in the chain of command, the BBC reports.
