Events to mark the 164th anniversary of the Union of Romanian Principalities are beginning in Iasi
Events dedicated to the 164th anniversary of the Union of Romanian Principalities are beginninf on Monday in Iasi, with an event at the „Mihai Eminescu” Hall of the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, attended by guests from the other bank of the Prut River, including the president of the Academy of the Republic of Moldova. On Tuesday morning, the city of Iaşi will host official events, a Te Deum, speeches, laying of wreaths, a military parade and the Union Hora. Events dedicated to the Union Day are also planned in Focsani, as well as in other cities in the country. In Bucharest, wreaths of flowers will be placed at the statue of Alexandru Ioan Cuza and in Constanţa a ceremony is scheduled in Ovidiu Square.
Pentagon will maintain the American presence at Mihail Kogălniceanu base
The Pentagon announced that it will maintain, for at least another nine months, the American soldiers deployed at the Mihail Kogălniceanu base. At this base, which is closest to the conflict in Ukraine, almost 4,000 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division of the United States have been stationed since last summer. According to some American military officials, quoted by the „New York Times”, the mission in Romania will be led by senior officers and high-level military strategists.
The Romanian Foreign Minister is taking part in the meeting of European ministers in Brussels on Monday
The Romanian Minister Bogdan Aurescu is attending the meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers from the European Union member states – the Foreign Affairs Council – which is unfolding on Monday in Brussels. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine will be discussed, and Kiev will be represented, via video conference, by the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmitri Kuleba. According to a press release, Bogdan Aurescu will reaffirm the need to continue the European Union’s support for Ukraine, especially to help the country overcome the cold season and to provide military assistance to the Ukrainian army, by means of the European Peace Facility. Mr. Aurescu will also support EU’s new sanctions against Russia and the bloc’s continuous support for third countries affected by the consequences of the war.
