Romania is aware of the agressive behaviour pattern that Russia displays in Ukraine, Klaus Iohannis has said
US President Joe Biden has faced calls to provide additional military support to NATO member states in Eastern Europe. He met in Warsaw with the leaders of the so-called Bucharest 9 states – former members of the Soviet bloc, who now demand that NATO troops be permanently stationed in the region. The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis – co-president of the summit – has said that Russia’s past and present actions must be diminished: „Russia is acting in a pattern of aggressive behavior, which we have already seen in the Republic of Moldova, in Georgia and Ukraine. Today, these partners benefit from allied support for their long-term resilience, support that is needed to help them achieve lasting peace, stability and prosperity.”
Romanian authorities have suspended the activity of Russian Center for Culture and Science in Bucharest
The Romanian authorities have decided to suspend the activity of the Russian Center for Culture and Science in Bucharest, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. According to a press release from the ministry, at the request of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, the Russian ambassador to Romania Valeri Kuzmin was summoned to the MFA headquarters on February 21 at the level of the Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs. The diplomat was informed about the decision of the Romanian authorities to suspend the activity of the Russian Center for Culture and Science. „The Russian ambassador was reminded of the repeated situations in which the Center deliberately engaged in actions to distort the reality and the historical truth at the level of Romanian public opinion” – the statement reads. According to the ministry, these slippages „intensified and took on new, particularly serious accents in the recent period” after the launch of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
