Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca says that the support process for European farmers needs to be accellerated
The Prime Ministers of Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland have submitted to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, set of proposals aimed at significantly reducing the imbalances created in the market by the massive Ukrainian grain imports. In this regard, the five officials have signed a joint letter drawing attention to the problems faced by farmers and presenting some solutions. One measure aims to supplement the European funds distributed to farmers as compensation and there is also possible to use this money to direct Ukrainian exports to countries in Africa and the Middle East. Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă has said that there is a need to speed up the process of helping European farmers and, at the same time, to create automatic support mechanisms for them in the affected regions. On the other hand, this European financial support could also be directed towards the development of transport infrastructure, but also towards those operators in the market who need additional vehicles. Moreover, in their joint letter addressed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Prime Ministers of Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland, have also proposed taking into account the reintroduction of customs duties for imports from Ukraine and that the European Union, in collaboration with the World Food Program, create a solution for the purchase of Ukrainian grains, so that the grains did not remain inside the European Union.
