Budget cuts expected
Romania’s budget will be cut by RON 20 billion in order to prevent a deficit of more than 4.4 percent of the GDP. The news come after Romania’s governing coalition found that ministries and state institutions spent unjustified funds at a time when the country’s Finance Ministry was looking for ways designed to reduce public fund waste. Measures may focus on premiums received by some budget personnel, according to the ruling. The announcement is based on fiscal concepts below initial proposals made by ANAF (Romania’s Agency for Fiscal Administration). The announcement was made by the country’s Finance Minister Adrian Câciu. Mr Câciu is a Romanian economist and leading member of the governing Social Democrat Party (PSD) who became the country’s finance minister in 2021.
Romania’s weather problems
Romania is facing weather closed to winter such as low temperatures, blizzards and snow. Planes were grounded, schools were shut while roads were blocked in different parts of the country due to snowfall and harsh winds. Romania’s meteorological service, the ANM, issued orange and yellow code warninggs along with a notice valid until April 8. According to meteorological estimates, the polar vortex will remain above Romania until Wednesday afternoon unless changes occur in the movement of air mass. Between April 5 and 8, weather will be cold, and it will rain, occasionally. Maximum temperatures will hit between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected between 1 and 3 degrees Celsius.
Romania elected in three UN boards
Romania’s election as a member pf three UN executive boards was welcomed by the country’s Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu on Thursday. Romania became a member of UN’s Development Program (UNDP), UN’s Population Fund (UNFPA), ad UNOPS – the UN office for projeect services as representative of the UN Eastern European Group. At the elections held within the ECOSOC (UN’s Economic and Social Council), “Romania succeeded in outperforming Russia”, the Romanian ministry said in a statement.
