Awareness campaign for parents who come back home for the summer holiday, organized by Save the Children and the Border Police
The “Save the Children” organization and the Border police have organized, for the third year in a row, an awareness campaign for parents who come home during the summer holiday. They talk to parents about the importance of keeping in touch with children who remain at home, in Romania, and of spending quality time with them, so that children regain the affective normality feeling.
Less than half of the parents who work abroad come to spend their summer holiday in Romania, with their children who remain at home. The main reason for not coming back is the lack of money, and this affects the children. The Border Police helps The Save the Children Organization and offers informational flyers at the frontier.
The situation of children who stay at home, without their parents, is complex, as to social and psycho-emotional vulnerability, says Mihai Gafencu, president of “Save the Children Romania”.
Mihai Gafencu: The consequences are all observed by myself, as a pediatrician, and are determined by the behavior change in life – from taking on alimentary refuge, so to speak, followed by gaining weight and obesity, up to depression and leaving school or even more serios activities close to crime, drug and alcohol consumption, violence or bullying.
According to Save the Children, last year, more than half a million children had at leas one parent abroad, to work. Among them, one third are completely without any care from their parents, having both their parents or the single parent away. The main states in which mothers work are Italy, Spain and Austria and fathers work mainly in Germani, Italy and UK.
After eight years, Iulian Gherguț, the Romanian man who had been kidnaped in Burkina Faso in 2015, has been freed, said the Foreign Minister
Iulian Gherguț, the Romanian man kidnaped in Burkina Faso in 2015, has been freed and is now safe in Romania, according to the Foreign Affairs Minister.
Iulian Gherguț was 39 years old and he was a security officer at a coal mine in Northern Burkina Faso, close to the border with Niger and Mali, when he was kidnaped in April 2015, by a terrorist group. He is now 47 and for many years nobody knew anything about him. At that time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs created a crisis cell, but has communicated very few details about the progress made for his release. The first images of the captive Romanian man have been made public by the terrorist group in August 2015.
Iulian Gherguț was seen on his knees, visibly affected. He was begging his family and the Romanian authorities to make efforts to free him. His kidnaping in 2015 was the first terrorist act in Burkina Faso. This marked the entry of the country in a long series of violence and jihadist attacks that have now extended on the majority of the territory.
At the moment, Iulian Gherguț is being waited home, in Săbăoani, in Neamț district. His parents never gave up hope to see him again alive.
