Romania’s culture minister must explain policies
Romania’s Culture Minister Raluca Turcan should appear before the Culture Committee in parliament’s lower house and explain recent intiatives of the government concerning the cultural sector. The call on Thursday belongs to Save Romania Union (USR), a center-right opposition party in parliament. The party believes that planned merger, abolition, transfer or funding cuts for public cultural institutions would force some museums to close their doors. “Plans designed to put some cultural departments under the county counsils’ control would damage the country’s cultural heritage”, USR MP Iulian Bulai said in a statement. Romania’s Culture Minister Raluca Turcan confirmed her presence before the special committee on September 4, when parliament was expected to open its session.
