President Klaus Iohannis’ visit to Portugal will end on Monday
On Monday, president Klaus Iohannis’ visit to Portugal will end. He will have a meeting with prime minister António Costa and he will hold talks with the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva. The two states have agreed to intensify their political, military and commercial cooperation.
The chief of state will be welcomed by the president of the municipality Carlos Moedas, and then the visit will include a meeting with Augusto Santos Silva and then one with António Costa, at Sao Bento Palace. Today, in Lisbon, two cooperation memorandums will be signed between Romania and Portugal, in important sectors: energy and economic cooperation, including investments. Therefore, the memorandum for the energy sector between the Portugese Environment and Climate Action Ministry and the Romanian Energy Minister will be signed, on the Romanian part, by minister Sebastian Burduja.
At the end of the official talks between president Klaus Iohannis and his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Klaus Iohannis indicated that they talked about solid domains in which Romania and Portugal can maximize their bilateral cooperation, such as energy, investments, education, culture and digitalization.
Many of the Romanian pilgrims have safely returned home, while those still in Israel are housed in safe places
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has published a declaration this morning to announce that 245 more Romanians have been repatriated yesterday from Israel, including two groups of pilgrims, with two Tarom flights and two more operated by a private company. Meanwhile, on the international Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Romanian Representative Office have created a mobile team to help Romanians in the country. Also a team of the Rapid Reaction Unit in the Crisis Cell has been sent to Israel to support repatriation efforts. On his part, the spokesperson of the Romanian Patriarchy, Vasile Bănescu, mentioned today that many of the Romanian pilgrims have already arrived back home safely and those still in Israel are safe and will be repatriated on airplanes which will take off according to approvals given by the military authorities.
National Holocaust Remembrance Day in Romania
Today Romania marks the National Holocaust Remembrance Day. The deportation of Jews from Basarabia, South Bucovina, North Bucovina and Transnistria began 82 years ago. The Holocaust has been recognized by the Romanian authorities in 2004, based on conclusions formulated by the commission lead by the Nobel Prize laureate Elie Wiesel. The Jews and rroma who died during the Holocaust will be commemorated in Bucharest, at the memorial built in their honor.
