Romania, Belgium and Italy have formed a consortium with the American company Westinghouse Electric to develop small nuclear reactors, according to Reuters news agency. The partnership was signed on Wednesday by the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo in the presence of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, and representatives of the Italian and United States embassies in Brussels. The decision comes as several European states are rethinking their nuclear strategies. In addition to Westinghouse, the Italian companies Ansaldo Nucleare and ENEA, the Romanian Research Institute RATEN and the Belgian Nuclear Energy Research Center will also be involved in the project.
Romania and Bulgaria have approved measures aimed at streamlining traffic on the Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge
The governments of Romania and Bulgaria have approved several measures to streamline traffic on the Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge, the main border crossing point between the two countries. Among the proposed measures is the possibility to pay the bridge toll online or via SMS, but only for cars, not for trucks. Also under consideration are measures such as the creation of a dedicated traffic lane for the transport of perishable goods and live animals, the repositioning of scales and an intelligent traffic management system to prevent traffic jams on the bridge. These measures are included in a memorandum which the government in Bucharest is due to approve in Thursday’s meeting.
Romania is to continue the dialogue for the evacuation of the other Romanian citizens from Gaza Strip
Romania will continue the dialogue with the Israeli and Egyptian authorities for the evacuation of other Romanian citizens and their family members who are still in Gaza Strip, depending on the developments on the ground and the agreement of the parties involved, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced. A consular team remains available in the area of the Rafah border crossing to Egypt to provide further assistance. The border was reopened on Thursday and the evacuation procedures will continue for the foreign citizens who received permission on Wednesday from the Israeli and Egyptian authorities to transit this point, including 51 Romanian citizens and their family members. On Wednesday evening, a first group of 93 Romanian citizens and their family members who evacuated from the Gaza Strip arrived in the country, together with 36 citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
