Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on African tour
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis is ending his three-day visit to Kenya on Thursday, with Tanzania as next stage of his African tour as Radio Romania’s special envoy Oana Bâlă reported. In Nairobi, the Romanian head of state was expected to visit a girls’ school, where he is about to establish a donation from Romania through a development support programme. “Kenya is an icon of political stability”, President Iohannis told reporters as quoted by kenyan daily newspaper The Star. The Romanian president’s African tour between November 14 – 23 will also include Tanzania, Cabo Verde, and Senegal.
Romanian Transport Ministry’s memorandum
Romania’s Transport Ministry put forward a memorandum on Thursday allowing losing railway state companies to further deliver food tickets to employers. Three railway companies – CFR Infrastructure, CFR Passengers, CFR Commodities, along wuth Metrorex are to be excepted from the law allowing budget cuts. Following the move, more than 45,000 employees are still expected to get food tickets in November and December despite any budget deficits.
Romanians in Bucharest protest future public pension plan
Some 2,000 Romanians gathered in the Victoria Plaza of the capital Bucharest on Thursday to protest against a new retirement law put forward by the government in recent days. The protests called by Meridian Trade Union Confederation included representatives of state instituions, along with groups of farmers and forest workers across the country. Other protesters included representatives of the police, mining industry, and public servants. Protests are focused on a government public pensions plan adopted by the government on November 9 expected to cut some current rights for trade unionists in such sectors.
