Developments in Israel under debate in a secret meeting of Romanian Parliament’s lower and upper house

A secret meeting is scheduled on Tuesday between Romania’s Senate and House of Deputies focused on recent developments concerning the State of Israel. The joint meeting follows a request put forward by Silviu Wexler, an MP representing the Jewish community in Romania. The meeting will also include images recently released by Israel Defence Forces (IDF) with sensiitive images of the conflict. Press access is restricted while personal photos, audio-video recordings or live streamings are not allowed during the event.

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on a visit to Senegal

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis starts his official visit to Senegal on Tuesday, the last leg of his African tour. The tour starts with a visit of the Senegalese Association for Protection of Children with Mental and Neurological Disorders in capital Dakar. The visit also includes the Island of Gorée, a UNESCO heritage site, former outpost of slave trade, where he is iexpected to meet local officials. Official talks with Senegalese President Macky Sall are expected on Thursday when official documents will be signed. Also on Thursday, President Iohannis will attend the official opening of the UN House in Senegal along with an exhibition of traditional masks. President Iohannis is also expected to meet former Senegalese students, graduates of Romanian universities decades ago.

Hunger strike against Romania’s new pension law

Another four trade union members from Romania’s Ambulance Service went on hunger strike in protest against a new pension law passed by Romanian MPs on Monday. Protesters claim the draft denies the special conditions of their work. The move is meant to express their support of Gheorghe Chiș, leader of the Ambulance National Trade Union, who organised protests since Monday.  Four other union leaders from the Ambulance went on hunger strike, in protest against the law. Backed by protesters all over the country, the strikers call for a meeting with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, lower house speaker Alfred Robert Simonis, Labour and Social Solidarity Minister Bucura Oprescu, Health Minister Alexandru Rafila and others in order to establish ways designed to meet protesters’ grivances.
