Separate meetings of Romania’s governing PSD and PNL
The governing left-wing Social Democrat Party (PSD) and the center-right National Liberal Party (PNL) are expected to hold separate meetings on Monday focused on the latest draft budget allowing the parties to pass a final plan on the matter to be approved in parliament on December 22. Leaders of the governing coalition hold previous talks on the matter on Sunday concerning a document expected to come under public debate later on Monday. Talks on the draft budget were also expected to include an emergency order on fiscal-budgetary measures, Finance Minister Marcel Boloș said in a statement while claiming that funds needed for a wage and pension increase were ensured.
Another earthquake in eastern Romania
An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude on Richter scale was reported in Romania’s eastern region of Vrancea on Monday, according to data issued by the country’s National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics (NIEP). Romania reported eight earthquakes of magnitude between 2.1 and 4.8 on Richter scale since early December. The strongest earthquake this year of 5.7 on Richter scale was reported in Romania’s southern Gorj county. Romania is seen as a country with moderate seismic activity given its geographical position. However, situated in a seismic active region, the country has a history of devastating and deadly earthquakes.
Conductor Finnegan Downie Dear at Radio Romania’s Concert Hall
London-born Finnegan Downie Dear will be th guest-conductor with Romania’s Radio National Orchestra in a concert on December 15. Finnegan came to international attention in 2020 when he was awarded First Prize at the Bamberger Symphoniker’s International Mahler Conducting Competition. Finnegan graduated from Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music. He subsequently worked as an assistant to Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Harding and Richard Baker among others. The concert in Romania will concentrate on Maurice Ravel, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century and author of the famous Bolero.
