A Spanish citizen wanted internationally was apprehended on Saturday at Henri Coandă Airport in Otopeni, near the Romanian capital Bucharest. The 53-year-old man must serve four years in prison in Spain for fraud, falsification of official documents and forgery. He was caught taking sums of money to finance supposed reclassifications of rural land to urban land in order to build a supermarket, but in fact he was only providing customers with fake documents. The Spanish authorities introduced an alert on January 3 in the Schengen computer system and based on this information, officers from Transport at the Romanian airport spotted the fugitive when he was waiting for his girlfriend, who had arrived from Spain. The man was detained and is currentlu in the custody of the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest and is due to be presented in court for the start of the procedures to hand him over to the Spanish authorities.
Net investments in the Romanian economy increased sigrnificantly in the first nine months of 2023
Net investments in Romania’s national economy increased significantly in the first nine months of last year, reaching 118 billion lei, 14% more compared to the period January-September 2022. Most of these investments belong to the majority private sector, almost 98 billions lei. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, investments in new construction works and the purchase of machinery, including means of transport, totaled over 74 billion lei, representing 62% of all investments in the national economy. In the first nine months of last year, however, the number of building permits decreased by around 8,000, to 26,000, with most of them issued for rural areas, and the number of completed homes decreased to approximately 50,000 – around 3,000 less compared to the January-September period 2022, according to INS.
Snow and blizzard in the counties of Romanian region of Moldova create difficult conditions for drivers on the roads
It is snowing in all the counties of the Romanian region of Moldova, which is under a yellow code warning for snow and blizzard, in place until Tuesday morning. A layer of snow has already been deposited on several national roads, and the intervention teams are acting to streamline the traffic. Driving is unfolding in winter conditions on most of the national roads in Moldova, where it has been snowing for hours. On National Road 24B, between the towns of Albița and Huşi in Vaslui county, a traffic restriction for trucks was established, considering the weather phenomena. County Road 244A is blocked by drifting snow and wind gusts of 80 kilometers per hour. A special situation is also in Bacău county, on the Sănduleni-Bacău section of National Road 11, where snow removal is under way.
