Opening of Romania – Vietnam Economic Forum in Bucharest
A Romania – Vietnam Economic Forum is opening in capital Bucharest on Monday as Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is on official visit to the country. Romania’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIR) is expected to host the event at noon (local time). Participants include delegates of companies involving such areas as financial-banking institutions, IT as well as counstruction, tourism and consulting companies. Official statistics show growing trade relations between Romania and Vietnam at $ 152 million in 2021. Vietnamese Prime Minister is also expected meet his Romanian counterpart Marcel Ciolacu and Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis during the day. A Prime Minister since 2021, Mr. Pham is familiar with Romania as he graduated the Politehnica (Romania’s National University for Science and Technology) before working as a dipomat at the Embassy of Vietnam in Bucharest. Mr. Pham is speaking Romanian as he is seen as an expert in relations between Romania and Vietnam.
Extraordinary session of Romanian parliament’s upper house
The Romanian Senate is meeting on Monday for debates over recent government orders issued following recent protests of Romanian transporters and farmers across the country. Senators are expected to pass among other things orders concerning a tax for diesel and kerosene and equivalence of permits for driving on public roads. Romanian transporters have been protesting for almost two weeks after negotiations with the government over lower taxes, higher subsidies and other demands have failed. Romanian farmers blocked a border crossing with Ukraine for a second time last Thursday.
Former judge Cristi Danileț retires at 48
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis signed a decree on Monday allowing the retirement of Cristi Danileț, a former judge and member of Romania’s Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM). As a judge in Romania’s northern city of Cluj-Napoca, Danileț was suspended in 2021 over two videos he posted on Tik Tok a year before which a panel decided amounted to „behaviour that affects the image of justice system”. Mr. Danileț won all the lawsuits against the CSM and he was reinstated. He announced his retirement last week, and said he left the job „with the feeling of duty fulfilled”.
