Draft government ruling under public debate
A draft government ruling concerning an increase of the gross minimum wage comes under public debate on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by Romania’s Labour Ministry. The minimum wage is expected to hit RON 3,700 starting from July 1. Romania’s governing coalition will appprove the document at its next cabinet meeting this week. The average salary for 2024 fiscal year is RON 7,567. Since 2007, gross minimum wage in Romania has constantly increased. However, the growth rate of the gross minimum wage changed over the years. Minimum wages in Romania increased to 663.24 euro/month in the first quarter of 2024 from 604.41 euro/month in the third quarter of 2023.
Romanian businessman at the DNA
A Romanian businessman has appeared before the country’s anticorruption watchdog, the DNA (Romania’s National Anticorruption Directorate), on Wednesday. Cătălin Hideg is involved as witness in an influence peddling case. Mr. Hideg had to hand over phones used to record conversations of two former generals of Romania’s Intelligence Service, the SRI. The case involves Florian Coldea and Dumitru Dumbravă, two former generals already charged for influence peddling. The two were meanwhile placed under judicial control and barred from leaving the country.
No more visa for Romanians travelling to Thailand
Romania is on Thailand’s list of countries where citizens will no longer need an entry visa. The ruling comes into force on June 1 as Thai authorities are trying hard to boost tourism acrosss the country. Romanians wishing to travel to Thailand had to get a visa on line or directly at the airport. The visa-free entry ruling also includes another 36 countries. The stay was also extended to 60 days. “Thailand and Romania enjoy friendly bilateral relations as Thai diplomats’ mandate is to forge stronger and closer ties between the two countries”, according to a note on Thai Embassy’s website in Bucharest.
