Presidential election talks still underway

Representatives of Romania’s governing coalition have failed in their attempt to reach a decision regarding the date of future presidential elections, according to coalition sources quoted by Radio Romania’s Andrei Șerban. The governing center-right National Liberal Party (PNL)  expressed its support of November while the center-left Social Democrat Party (PSD) believed the elections should take place in September as scheduled. Rejecting previous press rumors, Romanian liberals said they were not expected to leave as they felt responsible and would like to ensure a political balance. On the other hand, Romanian Social Democrats pointed out there already was an agreement between the two sides establishing a date in September for presidential elections.

Romania’s foreign minister on a visit to US

Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu starts a two-day visit to the US on Thursday, The visit will include political talks with US Secretary Antony Blinken as she is also expected to meet representatives of the US National Security Council. Ms Odobescu is also expected to attend the opening of a Romania – US Economic Forum where she would point out her country’s potential concernig further economic relations between Romania and the US, also including a co-operation in the energy sector along with efforts designed to encourage Ukraine’s recovery. The visit comes  at a time when Romania celebrates its 20-th anniversary as NATO member.

12-th anniversary of Romania’s Grand Prix Nova International Festival

Radio Romania is expected to host the 12-th edition of the Grand Prix Nova Radio Drama International Festival on June 23 – 28. The Sound Horizon, a workshop designed to attract young people into sound fiction experiences, will be organised between June 20 -24. The Grand Prix Nova Festival is organised under the auspices of Her Majesty Princess Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania with Edita  Kudláčová, Head of Radio European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as honour president of the jury.
